Author Guidelines

Perspectiva Educacional will receive theoretical or empirical works in the field of teacher training. Among this kind of work, we include scientific investigation articles and theoretical-reflexive articles about relevant and current topics about teacher training. Papers must not have been sent to other journals simultaneously. Reception of papers is open during the whole year. The guidelines are as follows:

  1. The papers (English or Spanish) must be unpublished. They must not exceed the 8,000 words, and must be half-spaced, justified and with written on Arial font size 11. The document must follow the .doc format (office/word 1997-2007). The scripts must be sent in a digital format by the OJS (Open Journal System) platform.

  2. The first page must include: the title of the paper and its translation into English; abstract and its translation into English; and five keywords and its translation into English. The abstract must not exceed the 150 words.

  3. The first page must also include the author's name, highest academic degree, academic afilliation, address and e-mail address. If there is more than one author, an asterisk must be placed next to the name of the one responsible for correspondence contact.

  4. Pages, titles, and subtitles must be numbered correlatively.

  5. Quotes and references must follow the APA 7 format.

  6. Bibliographical references must start in a new page, in alphabetical order by author and publication year. Each appendix must start on a new page and should be written in double space, each one identified by a capital letter.

  1. The use of footnotes must be avoided. If used, they ought to be brief and clarifying. The use of quotes must follow the APA 7 format. It is also suggested to refrain from the use of quotes in footnotes. If used, they ought to be brief.

  2. Tables and figures must be presented according to the APA 7 format, in Arial font size 9.

  3. Collaborations originated in empirical research must respect the ethical principles currently governing the investigation. See:  http://www.apa.org/ethics/code2002.pdf

  4. Once the article has been accepted, the authors must send a signed letter of the assignment of copyrights.

  5. Finally, the Perspectiva Educacional journal reserves the right to edit the papers, subjected to the group's editorial decisions.

Peer review process

Perspectiva Educacional subjects all articles to a rigorous peer review process, which takes between one and three months, with the following phases:

a) Manuscript Reception

b) Initial Review

c) Blind External Peer Review

d) Second Review of the Manuscript

e) Second Round of Review

f) Final Decision

g) Publication

a) Manuscript Reception: once the manuscript is received, an e-mail is sent to the authors through the journal's platform, informing them that the review process has begun.

b) Initial Review: the editorial team makes an initial review of the manuscript to ensure its relevance to the subjects and compliance with the formal criteria established by the journal. If the editorial team determines that the manuscript meets the minimum criteria for further review, the authos are asked to send a letter of authenticity and assignment of rights to Perspectiva Educacional, stating that the article has not been published or submitted simultaneously to another journal. Blind peer reviewers will then be assigned to start the evaluation process.

If the article does not comply with the journal's editorial profile, a rejection letter is sent indicating the reasons. If the article does not meet the criteria of thematic relevance and editorial standards, the article is rejected.

c) Blind External Peer Review: Once the editing team has assessed the thematic relevance and the fulfillment of the formal requirements explained in the “Author Guidelines”, two blind evaluators are assigned to undertake the evaluation process. These evaluators will fill the assessment pattern through the journal’s platform, depending on the nature of the article (research or theoretical).

The assessment concludes with the opinon of an expert, indicating that the manuscript has been: Accepted, Accepted with minor modifications, Accepted with major modifications, or Rejected. Regarding the assessment, the evaluators are asked to: a) indicate the fulfillment of the criteria of form and content; and b) develop a general valuation of the article, including suggestions and contributions.

If the evaluators do not agree, the manuscript is sent to a third evaluator in order to take the final decision.

The evaluators are academic experts on the subject, external to the editing committee, and, preferably, of nationalities different to the authors.

d) Second Review of the Manuscript: from the observations and contributions from the peer reviewers, the editor prepares a document that gathers every suggestion and deletes all the data that could allow the identification of the evaluators. This document is sent to the authors, who will then decide whether they send a new review of the manuscript, considering the observations made by the evaluators, or if they abandon the process. If they choose to send a new version to continue the reviewing process, the editing team will assign a date to send the articles with the adjustments that need to be made (it fluctuates between 2 to 3 weeks). If the authors do not want to continue, the manuscript is taken out of the journal’s data base and the authors are informed that there will not be another review of the article.

If the article is rejected by the evaluators, the authors will be informed about the suggestions made by them.

e) Second Round of Review: the editor receives a new version of the article. This version is then anonymously referred to the evaluators of the first version, with the purpose of checking if the suggestions were considered or not. In order to do so, the first version, the first assessment, and the new version are sent. Based on this, each evaluator reviews the new manuscript and indicates to the editor if new modifications are needed, or if they consider the article to be publishable.

f) Final Decision: once the editor receives the new assessments from the peer reviewers, they will do, with the help of the editing team, a global assessment of the article. Then, the final decision is made.

If the evaluators consider that new adjustments are still needed, the editor prepares a document with the new assessments, paying attention to the anonymity of the evaluators. This document is then sent to the authors. The previous process is repeated until the evaluator considers the article ready to be published.

Anonymity of the authors and evaluators is maintained in all instances. This way, the final version is prepared.

g) Publication: once the article has been finally accepted, the authors are asked for a letter surrendering the rights of the article.

Below we present the regulations in a downloadable format, where the authors can find the main guidelines and editorial standards of Perspectiva Educacional.
