Who are the new leaders? Systematic review of the figure of the middle leader in educational organizations

El liderazgo intermedio (LI) ha suscitado un interés creciente entre los investigadores, consolidándose como un estilo de liderazgo que combina elementos del liderazgo transformacional y del liderazgo distribuido. El LI implica la delegación de responsabilidades y funciones de liderazgo en los niveles intermedios de las organizaciones, a menudo formalizadas entre los profesionales de la educación. Sin embargo, la conceptualización, las características y las funciones del liderazgo intermedio varían de forma significativa. Con el objetivo de explorar esta figura y su heterogeneidad a nivel global, se llevó a cabo una revisión sistemática de 34 artículos indexados en la Web of Science, utilizando el modelo PRISMA. El análisis permitió clasificar los hallazgos en cinco bloques de estudio, revelando una notable variabilidad en la comprensión del liderazgo intermedio según los distintos contextos y sistemas educativos. Los resultados ponen de manifiesto la ausencia de una definición clara, así como el predominio de interpretaciones subjetivas que condicionan los roles y funciones desempeñados por estos profesionales. Asimismo, se identificó una falta de formación y desarrollo competencial específico para el ejercicio del liderazgo intermedio. Esta figura continúa representando un desafío para futuras investigaciones orientadas a alcanzar una definición y comprensión claras y consensuadas.
